Texas Hold`em Poker Hand Ranking
This list of No Limit Texas Holdem poker cards combination is used to determine which poker hands are better (Rank higher) then the others, they are ordered from the best to the least ranking ones:
Straight FlushStraight flush is the best possible Texas Holdem poker hand. This hand is a five poker cards in sequence and of the same suit (color and shape). It is a very rare poker hand. If two players both hold a straight flush, the one that has the highest card wins the betting round. If the highest card is the same for both, the hands are consider equal. Different suits have the same values in texasholdem poker hands, so a straight flush of hearts is the same as a straight flush of clubs poker hand. A straight flush with an ace high is called a Royal Flush.
Four of a kindThe second highest Texas Hold`em poker hand is the Four of a Kind, This is a hand with four poker cards that have the same face value. If two players, both have four of a kind, the player with the highest four cards wins the round. For example, four nines beat four sevens. If two players have four of a kind with the same four cards, the player with the highest fifth card wins the round. The fifth card is called the Side Card, or by it's more known name, the Kicker. If the side cards are of the same face value as well, the hands are considered equal and the pot is split between the two players.
Full HouseA Full House is a Holdem hand with one three of a kind poker hand combination, and one pair. If two players have both a full house, the player with the highest three of a kind cards in poker wins. If the three of a kinds cards are of the same ranking, the one with the highest pair of cards wins the round. If also the pairs are the same, then the texas holdem hands are consider of equal ranking and the pot is split between the players.
FlushThis is the case were all five
poker cards are of
the same suit, the hand is called a Flush. If two players have
both a
flush, the texas hold`em hand with the highest card wins the
round.
StraightFor a poker hand to be a considered Straight, it needs that all five poker cards must be in a number sequence. If two players have a straight hand, the player with the highest poker card wins. If both straights have the same highest card ranking, the hands are considered equal and the pot is split between the players.
Three of a kindThis is the case were three poker cards have the same face value, then you have what is called a Three of a Kind – but that is only in case when the remaining two cards do not constitute a pair of poker cards. If two players have both the three of a kind, the player with the best three cards wins the round of betting. If the three cards are the same rank, the hand with the highest side card (kicker) wins, or if the highest side cards too are of equal ranking, the player with the best second highest side card (kicker) wins the round of betting. If both second side cards are equal as well, then the hands are considered equal and the pot is split between the two players.
Two pairTwo Pair is exactly just what it sounds like, two poker cards of one face value and two cards of another. If two players have two pair, the poker player with the highest pair wins the round of betting, or if these are equal in ranking, the player with the highest second pair wins the round. If both the highest and lowest pair are equal between the hands, the poker hand with best highest side card (kicker) wins. If these too are equal in ranking, the hands tie and the pot is split between the players.
PairIn case that two cards in the poker hand are of the same face value, and none of the texas holdem hands above can be combined, the hand is a considered a Pair. If two players have both a pair, then the one with the highest holdem poker pair wins. If the pairs are of the same face value (rank), the hand with the highest side card wins the round, or if these too are equal, the one with the highest second card wins it, and so on. If both pairs and all side cards are equal, the poker hands are of equal value and the pot is split.
The hand with the Highest CardIf no hand contains any of the holdem combinations described above, the hand with the highest individual card is the highest hand. A hand containing an ace is higher than a hand with a king high. A hand with a king is higher than a hand with a nine high, and so on. If two hands have the same high card, the hand with the highest second poker card wins, and so on. If all five cards are equal, the hands are considered equal and the pot is split between the two players.
